Q. My company has equipment we would like to donate ? What Safeguards do you provide ? Is there a charge ?
A. CfC welcomes donations of working computer equipment, but It all depends on the age and type of equipment.
"Computers for Charities" is a registered reuse charity accepting donations of suitable working IT and associated equipment
"Recycling for Charities" is also a registered charity undertaking recycling of older or non workng equipment
(Both organisations are interlinked to provide a total service)
CfC accepts donations of working computer equipment; PC & Mac desktops, servers and laptops up to five years old. In addition CfC operates as an Authorised Microsoft Refurbisher, all hard drives are data wiped using secure Unix based sanitizing processes. Hardware donations are fully audited. please Note: Hard drives not meeting reuse criteria or tested as faulty are destroyed by smelting.
CfC assumes full liability on collection for items recieved meeting current CfC specification and reuse criteria. A charge maybe liable for other items.
Certification is available on request.
Charges:
CfC: does not make a formal charge for collections; Donations are welcome to aid running costs and project support. RfC: Nationally provides low cost solutions for Companies, Schools, NHS, Local government and Voluntary organisations with WEEE disposal. CRT's, UPS, laptop Batteries, etc. Prices available on request, email: info@recylingforcharities.org or call: Tel 01323 840641
Q. I have a home computer to donate, how do I go about it ?
A. Computers for Charities is unable to provide home collections at this time. Local authorities are charged with a duty of care, providing full disposal processes for domestic waste, including computer equipment.
For further information or advice please contact the waste management department of your local council. In addition we recomend the removal and destruction of hard drives, to ensure full data protection, to avoid the potential for releasing sensitive personal and in particular bank or credit information. CfC are actively contacting Local councils to seek partnerships for the development of secure, local drop off points to make this possible.
Computers for Charities accepts both Apple Mac and PC systems under five years old for reuse. Residents in South Wales and the Midlands will shortly benefit from our recycling program for older equipment.This is an environmental / Social program which will also offer training and sheltered employment in those regions.
Q. I would like to support your work how can I make a financial donation ?
A. This can be achieved either on line, as you will see there is a donation button which accepts most credit cards. Alternatively cheques can be accepted by post, if you are a UK tax payer a gift aid form can be supplied which will increase the value of your donation. For companies it is possible to undertake Corporate Gift Aid which enables giving of either goods or cash where tax is recoverable by the company.
Q. I have an old mobile phone that I no longer need ?
A. We would welcome you old mobile phone, charger and used printer cartridges, they can be sent by post to Computers for Charities. Cemetery Lodge. Ersham Road. Hailsham. BN27 3LJ or possibly you might consider setting up a collection point at your school, office or Club. Details available on request. Our "Phones for Vans" appeal is enabling the purchase of modified vehicles from Mercedes an extending the charities support across the UK and as far as Eastern European countries........
Q. I am viewing your website from overseas and would like computers for our school ?
A. We recieve in excess of 100,000 enquiries a year seeking support. Computers for Charities is a registered Charity with a very limited budget. Shipping costs are considerable, hence when we send equipment out. Shipping by container is the most cost effective way, whilst also assisting more projects as with our African Schools on Line program.
Q. Do you sell computer equipment ?
A. Sales represent just a small part of the charities work. Refurbished Sales are only available to Charities, Churches, Voluntary groups and educational establishments. Selling has become a necessary process to support increasing costs of providing wide ranging services and support across the UK and Overseas. With 100% of funds raised providing actual support for projects, etc.
Q. I am looking for a job, do you have any vacancies ?
A. Computers for Charities has been running since 1994. In that time we have operated totally through Volunteer support. No one is paid, offering time and skills to support the work and ongoing developments. Additional help is always welcome.
Q. Where do you get your funding ?
A. Computers for Charities does not recieve any funding, we remain grateful for sponsor support with specific programmes. British Airways, Air Zimbabwe for overseas assistance. And similarly company donations of equipment and varied assistance. Further support, patronage is welcome for our Recycling initiative and other projects including renewable energy sources.
Q. Do you ever give talks to local groups ?
A. Opportunities are welcome to give talks, displays to schools, churches and organisations.
Q. Are you connected to Computers for Charity based in Bude, Cornwall ?
A. No. Computers for Charities is not connected or related to Computers for Charity. Principally our roles are quite different, please note Computers for Charity is not registered with Charities Commission and therefore is not a registered charity.
